Mt. Kinabalu - Day 2, the summit

So much for sleeping... we were up by 1:30am the next morning, having breakfast at 2am and out the door by 2:30am on our way to the top of the mountain to catch the sunrise.

It's not the best picture, it was completely dark at this insame time of the morning so it made it a bit difficult to get a good picture, but here is my sister standing in front of the sign marking 5km on our journey. Only 1 km left to go.....

3.5 hours later after struggling through the bitter cold darkness and my sister battling altitude sickness, we finally made it to the top just in time for the sunrise.

Here we are on the morning of my 30th birthday at 4096m on the summit of Lowe's peak, Mt. Kinabalu.

As much as we wanted to stay on the mountain all day and enjoy the breathtaking views, we had a long journey ahead of us that day. Here we are slowly making our way back down.
