Waiting for the CityCat to go to Bretts Wharf.
Pelicans at Bretts Wharf.
This weekend we decided to go for a bit of an adventure and explore the city. Since it was a nice day out, we thought it would be a good day to go for a ferry ride. We took the ferry to the last stop and got off at Bretts Wharf. We walked along the wharf and saw some huge pelicans sun tanning on the beach and on the railing of the walk way until we reached a new development called the Portside Wharf. They have just finished building a new cruise ship terminal here and phase 1 of the residential and retail development in the area. We browsed the shops a bit and then decided to stop at one of the local cafes for a coffee and snack. When we finished and went to pay our bill, we discovered that they didn't have an EFTPOS machine (interact) and we didn't have any cash! And since the complex has only been there for 3 weeks, there wasn't a back machine to be found anywhere in the area. We decided that we would just casually stoll out of the area looking for a bank machine and left. I felt so guilty for walking out on our bill. The entire time I thought there was someone following us and any minute they were going to run up to us and yell at us for not paying our bill. By the time we got to the main road and found a place that had a bank machine, my feet were sore from walking in my new shoes and we were far enough away from the cafe that we just decided to move along. So on to Racecourse Road for some more exploring... well there really isn't much to see in suberbia when you're on foot, or for that matter even in a car. More shops and more restaurants until we reached the end of the road where the horse races take place. We thought we would wander in and try to catch a race for some entertainment, but no such luck. The only day they have horse races is on saturday. So we took some photos of the race course and headed back to the city where we found an antique mall and then had dinner in Chinatown. I've now finally come to the conclusion that contrary to what locals will tell you about the surburbs, there really isn't anything to see out there. Our next adventure we will have to venture much further outside of the city to the coast to see anything really interesting. I could use a trip to the beach soon :)

why didn't one of you stay while the other schlepped off to find a bank machine? That has happened to Michael and myself on more than one occasion! How on earth did we all function before bank machines??
