Last Day

Well all good things have to come to an end. Unfortunately our holiday was far too short, isn't it always though. So here we are on our last day in Cairns, wandering around the town/city all day, just killing time before we had to catch our evening flight back to Brisbane.

Todd wanted to have a "Crocodile Dundee" picture, so here he is in all his glory. Underneath the hat stand, there was a sign that read 'Please ask for assistance', but of course we didn't. After taking our picture, we wandered around the store a bit and the sales lady was really quite rude to us and made some snarky comment about how we didn't ask her for assistance with the hats. Todd snidely commented to me that the store clerk wanted us to leave and she followed us out of the store, yelling random things at us as we were leaving. What a bizarre way to treat your customers, stranger things have happened here in Australia though.

There is no real beach area in Cairns. In fact, at low tide, the beach is mostly just mud as far as the eye can see out to the ocean. So like Brisbane, they have built this fake beach area for people to sunbathe and swim.

Here's the 'beach' at high tide, still pretty muddy.

Backpackers hotels are all over the city centre. Here is a photo of one of the larger ones. It just happened to be right beside this market we were going to, so Todd took the photo opportunity with our dedicated blog readers in mind. At the market, Rusty's, there were all sorts of exotic tropical fruits for sale there amongst the usual suspects of fruits and veggies. Unfortunately since we were leaving on the plane that afternoon, we didn't buy any to try. But they had things like dragonfruit, starfruit, rambertams, breadfruit, soursap, persimon.... the list goes on and on. I wanted to try everything!

And of course no trip is complete without a trip to the local petting farm in the shopping mall. Well actually it was pouring rain (how unusual) so we were trying to find indoor things to do to stay out of the rain. So where else would we go but to the shopping mall, and what a convenient place to house Lamas and other farm animals.

So that's it gang, the end of our lovely tropical north Queensland adventure. So it's just back to life as usual in sunny Brisbane. Today was Anzac Day, the equivalent to our Rememberance Day, so we had the day off work. It was nice to get caught up on some house work and chores that you neglect when you don't have enough time. Anyhow, it's back to work tomorrow for another 2 days then the weekend again!

I am surprised you did not check out that we may be related to the 'gilligan' in the picture. Many of our relatives were sent out of Ireland (rather than being hung) and some went to Canada (quebec) and some went on to Australia. The charge was apparently, stealing pigs, so you know that we have not evolved too much!!
I love the photos and hope that you continue to dazzle us with them!
I am back to work today for four and may go up to Jason's on Sunday to have dinner with, I hope hope hope, Siobhan and Robyn. Well Jason too, but Barb is away in the USA buying wedding clothes with her partner Betty.
Miss you guys!

How does she beat me all the time?!
Maybe the lady in the store was on to moms theory and as such, treated you like poop! Aussies are known as thieves, maybe she just treats everyone that way! WRITE A LETTER!

Glad you guys had lots of fun. Going back into the grind sucks.. but it'll make the next vacation oh so sweet!
